Dr Asma Ashraf is a clinical and laboratory haematologist. She has interest in leukaemia, myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative syndromes, lymphomas and myelomas. She also consult patients for DVT, pulmonary embolism, obstetrics haematology as well as cytopaenias.
Dr Ashraf completed her basic Physician training through the Hunter New England Network and then went on to complete her Haematology training at Calvary Mater Newcastle. She has also gained experience in clinical haematology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, USA.
She is passionate about research and completed Master of Philosophy in School of Medicine and Public Health from University of Newcastle. She is actively involved in trials in acute myeloid leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes and participate in trials for lymphomas and myelomas. She scored Australasian Lymphoma Leukaemia Group (ALLG) scholarship for specialist certificate in clinical trials (Oncology) at University of Melbourne. She is also member of HNE Human Research Ethics Committee.
Dr Ashraf is working at Calvary Mater Hospital, Newcastle as a Staff specialist in Haematology Department. She also has admitting rights at Maitland Private Hospital, Newcastle Private Hospital and Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. She also uses chemo@home service to provide treatment at home/ nursing home when appropriate.
Dr Ashraf is involved in education of medical students and junior doctors. She is available for educational talks to GPs and nurses. She prides herself in her compassionate and professional bedside manner.
